Celtic midfielder, David Turnbull, has become the subject of interest from several Italian clubs, including AC Milan, as reported recently. At 24 years of age, Turnbull is considering his future at Parkhead, particularly since his current contract is set to expire at the end of the season. While he has featured in 14 games for Celtic this season, only seven of these have been as a starter. Nevertheless, manager Brendan Rodgers continues to support Turnbull, who has scored seven goals in all competitions this season, and hopes to see him remain in Glasgow beyond the 2023/24 season.
Despite Rodgers’ endorsement, Turnbull believes that he should be receiving more playing time and is now contemplating his options for the future. This has led to speculation that he may seek a move to Italy, with prominent Italian scout and intermediary Michele Fratine informing Pianeta Milan that AC Milan has shown interest in Turnbull, generating significant attention ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Fratini has likened Turnbull to current Tottenham Hotspur player Ivan Perisic, emphasizing his ability to score goals from long distances. He has also suggested that Milan may need to pay between £7 million to £8 million in order to secure Turnbull’s services prior to the expiration of his contract in May next year.
Fratini stated: “This player, who recently participated in the Lazio-Celtic match in the Champions League, plays as a central midfielder and is reminiscent of former Inter player Ivan Perišić in his movements. Different role, but he moves like him. Raised in Motherwell, he is good at managing the ball and running with it. He is skilled at intercepting and initiating play. He takes shots from distance with precision using both feet, both right and left. He possesses great strength when taking a shot from 20-30 meters.
“He has verbally parted ways with Celtic and his contract expires on 31 May 2024. Signing him in January would cost 8 million euros, maximum 10. Otherwise, Milan will have to hope to be chosen next summer from a very vast list of suitors. A Scottish international, like Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson, with different characteristics. A modern, complete midfielder: he scored 7 goals in 11 league games for Celtic. A very intriguing prospect that many Italian clubs are looking at, including Milan.”
