Excitement is Mounting for Harborwomen Hockey

The 2023-2024 girls’ hockey season has commenced with an electrifying start, characterized by the palpable enthusiasm of the Harborwomen team. The countless hours of rigorous off-season training, encompassing intense gym sessions, demanding practices, and team-building events, have all culminated in this pivotal moment – the return to the ice. This season, Head Coach Courtney Turner, in collaboration with senior captains Reese Pompeo and Isabel McCabe, alongside junior captain Caroline Doherty, are leading the charge towards TD Garden, with their sights firmly set on victory following last year’s near miss.

Reese Pompeo, a seasoned three-sport varsity athlete and captain, is no stranger to leadership and competition. She eagerly anticipates the confrontations against their biggest rivals, Duxbury and NDA, foreseeing highly competitive and enthralling games. Coach Turner holds high expectations for Pompeo, envisioning her as a formidable leader who will impart valuable lessons gleaned from her soccer experiences to the hockey team.

Isabel McCabe’s focus this season centres on cultivating a positive environment conducive to the flourishing of herself and her teammates. With a cohort of incoming freshmen assuming pivotal roles, the creation of a comfortable and supportive atmosphere is imperative. Acknowledging the pivotal role played by last year’s seniors and captains in establishing such an environment, McCabe is committed to upholding the same encouraging atmosphere and leadership for the team.

Coach Turner echoes the sentiments of her captains, underscoring the significance of cohesive teamwork and fostering a strong team culture. She maintains an optimistic outlook on the team’s potential, accentuating the pivotal role of teamwork and unity in propelling the team towards success.

In addition to Pompeo and McCabe, Coach Turner has identified several players poised to exert a significant impact this season, including junior forward Addy Garrity, defenseman CC Flynn, and freshman forwards Hannah Lasch and Shea Richardson, among others. She has also highlighted the formidable offensive prowess of junior captain Caroline Doherty and the impressive skills exhibited by their young goalkeepers.

On and off the ice, the Harborwomen exude a winning attitude, auguring well for their championship aspirations. With a confluence of strong leadership, a supportive environment, and exceptional skills, the team has set their sights on achieving remarkable feats this season.
