The men’s basketball team at Western Oregon University experienced a challenging start to their GNAC play with a defeat of 81-67 on Thursday night at the New PE Building.
The Wolves, with a record of 3-4 overall and 0-1 in GNAC, encountered an early 16-4 deficit and were unable to regain the lead throughout the game, despite their efforts to close the gap in the second half against the Wildcats, who sit at 5-2, with a GNAC standing of 1-0.
At the halfway point, WOU trailed 41-31, but demonstrated a resurgence. With 5:32 left on the clock, they managed to reduce the deficit to five at 63-58 after a basket by Qiant Myers. However, this was their closest approach, as the Wildcats re-extended their lead to double figures just 90 seconds later.
Despite the loss, Myers led the Wolves with an impressive 21 points, while Jason Gallant contributed 16 points to the team’s overall score.
Looking ahead, WOU will have the opportunity to recover when they return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday against Northwest Nazarene back in Monmouth.
The team will need to regroup and refine their strategies as they prepare for their upcoming games in the GNAC. Despite the challenging start, the team’s resilience and talent will undoubtedly propel them toward future success.
The Wolves will be able to learn and progress from their recent loss, and with the support of their fans and coaching staff, they will assuredly return even stronger in their next games.
As they progress through the season, the team will continue to exhibit their determination and commitment on the court, with the goal of making an impact in the GNAC.
