The men’s basketball team at Stevens Institute of Technology displayed exceptional shooting abilities, resulting in a decisive 85-66 victory over Hood College in a Middle Atlantic Conference crossover matchup.
Junior Jack Spellman demonstrated an unstoppable performance, achieving a perfect five out of five field goals. The team as a whole maintained a shooting percentage of over 50% from the floor for the second time this season, securing their sixth consecutive win and improving their record to 6-1.
Graduate student Stephen Braunstein led the Ducks with 18 points, while Conor Coffey added 12 points, seven boards, and five assists. The team’s impressive shooting abilities were evident as they finished the game with a 51.9% field-goal percentage, marking their second-best shooting performance this season. Their proficiency from the three-point line was particularly noteworthy, with the team making 16 of 30 attempts, including 11 of 19 in the first half. This marks the second-highest number of three-pointers made by a MAC Freedom team this season and is the most for Stevens since November 15, 2016.
The game showcased the Ducks’ offensive prowess, with the team dominating both halves of the matchup. Despite Hood holding a five-point advantage at one point in the first half, a 15-point run led by Braunstein and Coffey allowed the Ducks to close the half with an 11-point lead. The team continued their offensive onslaught in the second half, scoring the first nine points and maintaining a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
Stevens’ dominance extended to both ends of the court, as they finished with a 36-30 advantage on the boards and demonstrated unselfish play with 18 assists on 27 baskets. In addition to their remarkable offensive performance, the Ducks also held Hood scoreless for the first six minutes of the second half.
Following this impressive victory, the Ducks are focused on their upcoming non-conference action against Brooklyn College on Tuesday, December 5. The team aims to extend their winning streak and sustain their strong performance on both ends of the court.
