Mitchell Marlins Girls and Boys Hockey Teams Hit the Road

The Mitchell Marlins girls’ hockey team enjoyed a successful weekend, securing their first win of the season while on the road. The team demonstrated a strong overall performance, with four players contributing to a 5-1 victory over Rushmore on Saturday. The Marlins then engaged in a closely contested match on Sunday, ultimately falling 2-1. Both fixtures were held at the Rushmore ThunderDome.

In Saturday’s game, the Marlins outshot the Thunder 26-20. The defense demonstrated improvement from their previous game against Sioux Falls. Makenna Tronnes opened the scoring, with an assist from Brynlee Sabers, who had an impressive four-point game. Resse Amick netted two goals, with Livaya Mimmack also finding the back of the net. In total, six players contributed points to the victory.

During Sunday’s game, Rushmore’s Paige Zimiga scored the opening goal, but Amick swiftly responded with her third goal of the weekend. Lillie Hoffman then scored for the Thunder, ultimately sealing the victory. Eva Ramm made 29 saves for the Marlins in the loss.

The Mitchell Marlins girls’ hockey team, now with a record of 1-2-1, will face Sioux Center, Iowa at home on Friday, December 8, and will then travel for a game against Aberdeen on Saturday, December 9.

Conversely, the boys’ hockey team faced a challenging weekend on the road, suffering defeat in both games of their doubleheader against Rushmore, with scores of 8-1 on Saturday and 12-0 on Sunday.

During Saturday’s game, Rushmore outshot Mitchell 46-8 and took an early lead, maintaining control throughout. The Marlins incurred six penalties, totaling 36 minutes, and the Thunder capitalized on their power play opportunities. William Simmons and Alexander Dietrich each scored twice for Rushmore, while Levi Loken netted the lone goal for Mitchell.

Sunday’s game saw Rushmore attempt 64 shots on goal, once again capitalizing on their power play opportunities. Wyatt Reeder scored a hat trick with two assists, with other Thunder players contributing to the 12-0 victory.

With a current record of 2-3, the Marlins boys’ hockey team will regroup for an upcoming game in Aberdeen on Saturday, December 9, before returning home to face Watertown on Sunday, December 10.

Both teams have exhibited determination, and their forthcoming games are anticipated to be filled with excitement and effort.
