Weekly Recognition for Outstanding Performances in ACC Women’s Basketball

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has recently announced the latest recipients of the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors. This week, Pitt senior forward Liatu King and Syracuse forward Alyssa Latham have been acknowledged for their outstanding performances on the court, marking the first time both players have received this esteemed weekly award.

The selection process for the ACC women’s basketball weekly awards involves voting by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel, which consists of experts in the field.

Liatu King has been particularly notable with an impressive stat line, averaging 24.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 2.5 assists, while shooting an impressive 65.6 percent from the field. Her outstanding contributions were instrumental in Pitt’s victories over Saint Francis and Binghamton. Notably, King became the first player in Pitt history to achieve five consecutive games with 21 points or more, placing her in the company of only two other players this season. Her remarkable consistency and all-around game have solidified her status as a force to be reckoned with in women’s college basketball.

On the other hand, Alyssa Latham displayed her prowess as a rookie, delivering a career-high 23 points and 12 rebounds in Syracuse’s victory over Alabama. Her exceptional performance included a late three-point play that ultimately sealed the crucial non-conference win for her team. Latham’s impact was not limited to scoring, as she also made her presence felt on the defensive end with five blocks, further emphasizing her versatility and potential as a rising star in the ACC.

Looking ahead, the ACC is set to enter conference play, with Duke facing Clemson in the opening game on Thursday, December 7. Additionally, a total of 21 non-conference games are scheduled for the week, featuring top teams such as Florida State, North Carolina, and more in highly anticipated matchups.

This season, the ACC has demonstrated its strength with six teams being ranked in the latest Associated Press (AP) Women’s Basketball Poll. NC State, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Florida State, and North Carolina have all earned spots in the rankings, underscoring the conference’s depth and competitiveness.

As the season progresses, fans can anticipate thrilling conference games and captivating non-conference showdowns, showcasing the incredible talent and fierce competition within the ACC women’s basketball landscape.

In addition, the ACC also announced the previous recipients of the 2023-24 ACC Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors, reflecting the impressive performances that have defined the early stages of the season.

The weekly honours for outstanding achievements in ACC women’s basketball serve as a testament to the exceptional talent and dedication displayed by student-athletes across the conference. With the season in full swing, the stage is set for more compelling matchups and inspiring performances as teams vie for supremacy in the ACC.
