The most recent addition to Lake Tahoe’s sporting landscape has made an impressive debut with the announcement of the team name, colours, and logo of the new minor league hockey team, owned by former football quarterback and 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow.
The team, to be referred to as the Tahoe Knight Monsters, has disclosed that their colours will be teal, gold, and black, along with a logo depicting a dragon-like creature purportedly “residing and reigning over Lake Tahoe.” As per the team’s press release, the name was selected from over 1,000 fan submissions and was inspired by the legend of “Tahoe Tessie,” a mysterious creature akin to the Loch Ness Monster.
The Knight Monster is portrayed as a distinctive and iconic representation blending the nobility of a knight and the ferocity of a lake monster, with the aim of establishing a unique visual identity. Described as majestic, fierce, and formidable, the team has depicted the Knight Monster as a guardian fighting for those unable to defend themselves.
Scheduled to commence play in the 2024-25 season of the East Coast Hockey League, the team will compete at the Tahoe Blue Event Center in Stateline, Nevada. This new arena, boasting a seating capacity of 4,200, is situated adjacent to four major casinos along Tahoe’s south shore.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Tebow stated, “We are extremely excited to unveil our team’s name to our fans and the region. We eagerly anticipate uniting the community for enjoyable family entertainment and making a positive impact in this area.”
The Tahoe Blue Event Center, with a substantial price tag of $100 million, hosted its inaugural event in September. Additionally, it has the capacity to accommodate up to 5,000 attendees for concerts and 4,700 for basketball games.
As the Tahoe Knight Monsters prepare for their debut season, excitement and anticipation in the region are building. With the promise of exciting hockey action and a vision for making a positive impact on the community, the team is poised to become a focal point for sporting entertainment in Lake Tahoe.
