The Rising Stars of Wisconsin High School Girls Basketball

The eagerly anticipated Wisconsin high school girls basketball season has arrived, with focus squarely on 33 outstanding players from across the state who are poised to leave a lasting impression in the forthcoming season.

One such player is Lydia Aalsma, a junior hailing from Waupun, who garnered high honorable mention honours on the Associated Press all-state team. Aalsma, who averaged 14 points and 5.4 rebounds last season, was instrumental in leading Waupun to the WIAA Division 3 state tournament. She will be furthering her career at St. Thomas (Minn.) for college.

Another player to watch closely is Jasonya “J.J.” Barnes, a junior from The Prairie School. Barnes, a 5-8 guard, secured second-team AP all-state accolades and has received collegiate offers from Butler, Illinois, Marquette, Michigan State, UW-Milwaukee, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Xavier.

Reagan Briggs, a senior from Verona, is also a name on the roster of elite players. The 5-9 guard, an honorable mention pick on the AP all-state team, averaged an impressive 20.6 points and will be refining her skills at DII St. Cloud State for college.

Additionally, Sydney Cherney, a senior from Reedsburg, topped the state in scoring with a remarkable 31.6 points and also averaged 12 rebounds. Cherney is set to continue her basketball career at DII Grand Valley State.
