The much-anticipated annual Rainoil Grandslam Tennis competition is scheduled to commence today at the esteemed Ikoyi Club 1938. This event, generously sponsored by Rainoil, pledges to deliver an exhilarating showcase of skill and sportsmanship as club members strive for the ultimate bragging rights on the court.
The draws for the tournament were conducted on Tuesday, December 5th, setting the stage for a captivating display of tennis prowess. The competition will feature a variety of categories, including Men’s Singles A and B, as well as the Ladies Singles. Furthermore, there will be a gripping showdown in the Veteran Singles category for participants aged 60 to 69, and the Super Veterans category for players aged 70 and above.
In addition to the individual events, a team competition will also be a highlight of this highly anticipated tournament. The event is set to run until December 16th, with the team events commencing on Monday, December 11th.
Akeem Mustafa, the Chairman of the Ikoyi Club Tennis section, expressed confidence in the preparedness of the club for the tournament. Last year, Destiny Da emerged as the champion after defeating O. Emelie with a score of 6/3, 6/3. In the team event, Team Retail emerged victorious by clinching a 7-3 victory over Jet Fuel in the final of the previous edition held on December 3rd, 2022.
