The recent women’s basketball game between the Yale University Bulldogs and Stony Brook University at the Island Federal Arena in Stony Brook, NY proved to be a challenging contest for the Yale team. Despite their aspirations of securing their third win of the season, the Seawolves emerged triumphant with a final score of 81-66.
The game commenced with a fast-paced first period, during which both teams secured early points. The Bulldogs heavily relied on three-pointers in this quarter, with Kiley Capstraw ’26 hitting an impressive shot and Jenna Clark ’24 contributing two more. However, their efforts were not enough to secure a lead, and the period concluded with the Bulldogs trailing at 15-9.
The second period witnessed a stronger offensive effort from the Yale team, with additional members stepping up their game. Mackenzie Egger ’25, Lola Lesmond ’26, and Brenna McDonald ’24 all made valuable contributions. Despite their efforts, Stony Brook maintained their lead.
At halftime, the Bulldogs found themselves behind at 63-56, but they remained determined to mount a comeback. A notable jump shot from Egger narrowed the gap to four points at 45-49. Despite their best endeavors, Stony Brook extended their lead in the third period, ultimately defeating the Bulldogs with a score of 66-81.
Although the Bulldogs faced a loss, individual players delivered standout performances. Clark, Capstraw, and McDonald demonstrated impressive showings, with Clark achieving a season-best result in both points and field goals made, contributing 26 points, which accounted for 39 percent of the team’s total.
Capstraw and McDonald also displayed commendable performances, each scoring 13 points, with the latter achieving a season high. Their consistent delivered proved to be a valuable asset for the Yale team.
Looking ahead, the Bulldogs will return to the John J. Lee Amphitheater in New Haven, Conn. this weekend to compete against the Providence College Friars. The team aims to regroup and come back stronger following the midweek defeat.
Although the loss was challenging for the Bulldogs, they are regrouping and preparing to deliver a resilient performance in their upcoming match.
