Hometown Heroes: Wildcats and Huskies Face Off in Weekend Hockey Showdown

The Northern Michigan Wildcat men’s hockey team engaged in a weekend split series against their rivals, the Michigan Tech Huskies, evoking great anticipation among the spectators.
The initial clash, hosted in Houghton, witnessed defenseman Colby Enns making the opening goal, granting the Wildcats a commanding advantage in the first and second periods. Nevertheless, the Huskies executed a remarkable comeback in the second period, securing three goals. Forward Reilly Funk displayed considerable resilience in the third period, netting his first goal of the season. Alas, the Wildcats succumbed to a 4-2 defeat against the Huskies on the first night.

The series relocated to Marquette for the subsequent encounter, where the Wildcats commenced fervently with a goal from Forward Ryley Van Unen in the first period. Defenseman Aiden Gallacher contributed to the lead with another goal in the second period, elevating the score to 2-0 in favor of the Wildcats. The home team continued to dominate, with Gallacher securing another goal and Defenseman Josh Zinger closely following suit. The Wildcats emerged victorious, clinching a 3-1 triumph in the third period.

Both contests were replete with enthralling moments and enthusiastic support from the capacity crowd, including the spirited student section. The Wildcats are poised to square off against Michigan Tech at the Berry Events Center in an exhibition match on Jan. 6.
