Head Coach Jacob Dunbar and the University of Richmond Women’s Tennis team have released their 2024 schedule. The upcoming season is poised to deliver a series of exciting matches, commencing with an opening game at Virginia and multiple home matches at the Westhampton Tennis Complex.
Coach Dunbar is brimming with enthusiasm as he anticipates the forthcoming season, having observed the team’s remarkable progress during the fall. “The team is exceptionally talented, with a strong desire to achieve success,” he remarked. “I am confident that we are poised for a stellar season, and I am eager to witness the team’s accomplishments.”
The Spiders will inaugurate their season with a demanding match at Virginia on 18th January, followed by visits to Georgetown before returning home to confront Navy and Bucknell in quick succession. Their Atlantic 10 schedule will commence in mid-February, featuring a clash against local rivals VCU, with a series of captivating encounters scheduled throughout March and April.
Coach Dunbar is particularly optimistic about the spring break trip to Charleston, which he believes will afford the team a valuable opportunity to refine their skills and prepare for the upcoming A-10 matches.
The team’s roster showcases a plethora of core talent, including numerous returning seniors and a promising duo of sophomores. This seasoned lineup, coupled with the addition of two talented freshmen, positions the team for a formidable showing in the 2024 season.
The previous season culminated in a respectable 10-15 record, highlighted by notable momentum in the A-10 tournament. Coach Dunbar underscored the team’s invaluable experience, attributing their 2023 success to their maturity and leadership.
Newcomers Lainey O’Neil and Lucy Webber, both of whom have demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication during the fall, are expected to seamlessly assimilate into the team’s championship season.
