The Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) has officially unveiled its much-anticipated rankings for boys and girls basketball, as well as ice hockey.
In a departure from the reliance on weekly coaches’ polls for team sports, CHSAA has opted to shine the spotlight on its Seedings Index throughout the season. This pivotal index serves as a crucial tool in determining qualification and postseason seedings for all team sports. Unlike the coaches’ polls, the rankings on the Seedings Index can be updated hourly, providing teams, coaches, schools, and fans with a more precise understanding of where a team stands throughout the season, particularly as the postseason approaches.
It is important to note that the rankings provided below may not necessarily align with the rankings on the Seedings Index page, as data on the page is updated every time a new result is entered.
Teams must meet a minimum number of games played to qualify for the CHSAA Seeding Index. The specific games and minimums are determined by MaxPreps and may vary depending on the sport and the time of the season. Therefore, the Seedings Index may not be available at the start of every season and will only be published as teams progress further into their seasons, typically around 3-5 weeks into a particular season.
The rankings released this week for each of the sports offer a snapshot of where teams currently stand as of the week of December 18. The complete rankings can be found on the Seedings Index page.
CHSAA’s emphasis on the Seedings Index marks a significant development for high school sports in Colorado. The shift away from traditional coaches’ polls towards a more dynamic and consistently updated ranking system represents a major step towards providing more accurate and reliable information for all involved in high school team sports.
The use of the Seedings Index is a reflection of the evolving landscape in high school sports and underscores CHSAA’s dedication to adapting to the changing needs of teams, coaches, schools, and fans. By leveraging technology to provide real-time updates and rankings, CHSAA ensures that all stakeholders have access to the most current and relevant information throughout the season.
As the winter sports season progresses, teams, coaches, schools, and fans will closely monitor the rankings on the Seedings Index to track the progress of their favorite teams and assess how they measure up against the competition. This shift towards more frequent and up-to-date rankings represents a positive step forward for high school team sports in Colorado.
It is exciting to witness how the use of the Seedings Index will impact the landscape of high school sports throughout the season. As teams vie for a spot in the postseason, the rankings will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping the competitive environment. The implementation of the CHSAA Seedings Index is paving the way for an increasingly dynamic and engaging future for high school team sports in Colorado.
