Senior Hockey Weekend Recap: League Action Across the Northern Venues

This past weekend, there were some unresolved issues with the ice rinks at the Hafford Hawks and Edam 3 Stars, which led to the Sask West Hockey League making last-minute adjustments to the scheduled games.

Consequently, both the Hawks and the Stars had to relocate their home games to temporary venues. The Hafford Hawks played at the Don Ross Arena in North Battleford, while the Edam 3 Stars found a temporary home at the nearby Turtleford Arena.

The Kindersley Sr. Klippers played two out of three games on the road this past weekend, facing off against the Hawks and the Stars. Phil Heilman, the league’s webmaster and statistician, was present at the Don Ross Arena on Friday to witness this unprecedented shift in venue.

Heilman reported, “In the first regular season SWHL game ever played at the Don Ross Arena, the Hafford Hawks hosted the Kindersley Sr Klippers on Friday night, and it was the Hawks who emerged victorious with a 6-1 win.” The Unity Miners also faced off against Hafford on Saturday, resulting in a 4-1 victory for the Hawks at the Don Ross.

For the latest updates on SWHL games and scores, fans are encouraged to visit the league’s website as the teams head into the final week before the Christmas break. The upcoming week will see four games on the schedule, including Hafford visiting Edam at the Turtleford Arena on Thursday, Wilkie playing in Kindersley, Unity hosting Macklin on Friday, and Edam visiting Wilkie on Saturday.
