The Memphis basketball team has announced the addition of Nae’Qwan Tomlin, a highly skilled forward, to its roster as a midseason transfer. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a little longer to witness his on-court performance, as he will not be participating in the upcoming game against Virginia on Tuesday night.
While Tomlin won’t be playing just yet, he will be present on the bench during the game and will have the opportunity to practice with the team. According to a press release from the school, Tomlin is currently awaiting confirmation of his graduation from his previous institution, Kansas State, which is expected to be finalized by Wednesday. Once this is settled, Tomlin will be eligible to compete for the Tigers.
As Tomlin enters his final season of eligibility, he has established himself as a prominent figure in the collegiate basketball scene. His time at Kansas State was marked by impressive statistics, averaging 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds in 36 games for the Wildcats. Notably, his outstanding performance during the NCAA Tournament further solidified his talent, with averages of 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game.
However, Tomlin’s journey has not been without challenges. Prior to the 2023-24 season, he faced a setback following an altercation at a bar in Manhattan, Kansas, which led to his suspension and eventual dismissal from Kansas State. Nonetheless, Tomlin’s determination and love for the game have led him to Memphis, where he aims to start anew.
Before his time at Kansas State, Tomlin’s basketball career began at Monroe Community College, where he redshirted in 2018-19 before delivering an impressive performance the following season. He continued to shine at Chipola College in Florida, showcasing his skills by averaging 13.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore.
With the addition of Tomlin, the future looks promising for Memphis basketball. Fans are eager for his debut on the court and are optimistic about the impact he will make on the team. The Tigers and head coach Penny Hardaway are hopeful about the opportunities that lie ahead with Tomlin on board.
