The Gambia Hockey Association has recently concluded an extensive coaching course, which encompassed both practical and theoretical aspects of the sport. In line with the association’s dedication to fostering talent and advancing hockey within the country, a two-week distribution of materials and certificates to various schools and participants has been initiated.
On the 23rd of November 2023, institutions such as Brikama UBS, Jamisa SSS, Mindow SSS, New Yundum UBS, Busumbala Basic Cycle, SBEC International, Bakoteh SSS, Kairaba SSS, and Kanifing East SSS received their materials and certificates. This was followed by the distribution of materials and certificates to Saint Joseph, Gambia SSS, and Saint Augustine UBS on the 26th of November 2023. Subsequently, Marena International, Tallinding, Charles Jaw, Latrikunda Sabiji, and Nema Kunku received their materials and certificates on the 4th of December 2023.
Furthermore, the Gambia Hockey Association has generously provided hockey materials to schools in the Greater Banjul area and Brikama area, including 16 hockey sticks, 13 balls, and 5 sets of guards and goalkeeping gears. The objective of this initiative is to equip schools with the necessary resources to facilitate the growth of hockey as a sport.
It is important to note that all schools and participants who participated in the coaching course received their materials and certificates, thus marking the successful conclusion of the program. Additionally, specific clusters such as Kanifing, Banjul, Brikama, Latrikunda, and Bakau have also received their goalkeeping gears, underscoring the widespread impact of the association’s efforts.
As the Gambia Hockey Association continues to make progress in promoting the sport and cultivating local talent, these initiatives play a pivotal role in providing opportunities for young athletes to refine their skills and pursue their passion for hockey.
