Hockey Club Scores Big with Funding Boost – Ballarat Times

Hockey Ballarat is pleased to announce that it has received a generous financial contribution of $3000 from Ballarat Connected Communities. This funding will be allocated towards the procurement of new, safer goals for the Prince of Wales Park facility.

Cristin Ruyg, President of the club, has expressed her sincere appreciation for the grant, highlighting the pressing need for improved goals due to existing safety concerns. The installation of new goals, in conjunction with future pitch enhancements supported by the City of Ballarat, is anticipated to create a secure playing environment and an overall positive experience for all participants. Ruyg has also indicated that the club eagerly anticipates the completion of these upgrades by the year 2024.

The current winter competition at Hockey Ballarat is operating at full capacity, reaffirming the critical importance of having high-quality facilities. As a volunteer-led non-profit organisation, Ruyg underscored the significance of community backing in sustaining the club’s operations.

She remarked, “In a challenging economic climate, it is vital for us to minimize membership fees and associated expenses. This funding not only facilitates this objective, but also empowers us to allocate resources towards initiatives such as umpire development, school programs, and junior activities – all of which have a direct impact on the welfare of our members and the broader community.”

With a current membership of 500 individuals and an impending return to pre-pandemic participation levels, the Prince of Wales Park emerges as a bustling centre with over 800 users per week during peak hours. The facility is utilized from 5 pm to 9 pm every weekday, and from 8 am to 6 pm on weekends.

The financial aid from Ballarat Connected Communities arrives at a critical juncture for the club and its positive influence on the local community cannot be overstated. With these developments, Hockey Ballarat is well-positioned to deliver a premium sporting experience for its members and the wider community for years to come.
