Wayne Eagles Boys’ Basketball Season Preview: A Look at the Future

The Wayne Eagles are preparing for the upcoming season in Finger Lakes East/A with Coach Bill Thomson, who has 22 seasons of experience and an impressive record of 265-166, leading the team. Coach Thomson has secured three sectional titles and five league titles during his tenure. Although the team finished last season with a 17-5 record, they fell short in the Class A2 semifinals, losing to East in a close game, 51-43.

The team boasts a strong lineup of key returning players, including Cam Blankenberg, who averaged 24.5 points per game, PJ Ostrowski with an average of 18.0 points per game, and Stephen Habecker, who averaged 2.0 steals per game. Seniors Jonah Schichtel and Josh Warner also made significant contributions. Additionally, the Eagles welcome promising newcomers in Aidan Twist and Isaac White.

The Wayne Eagles’ next game is against Palmyra-Macedon on Friday, December 22nd, with a 7:30 PM tip-off at Wayne Central Schools.

Coach Thomson expresses optimism about the team’s prospects, stating, “We have a long team on the back line of our zone Cam (6-foot-5), Josh (6-foot-6), and PJ (6-foot-2). If we can play with more physicality and handle pressure we should contend for our league title and compete at a high level in sectionals.”

With an experienced coach and a talented mix of seasoned players and newcomers, the Wayne Eagles are positioned as strong contenders for the upcoming season. Their focus on physicality and pressure management offers them a strategic advantage as they pursue the league title and success in the sectionals.

As the season progresses, basketball enthusiasts and supporters of the Wayne Eagles will keenly monitor the team’s performance as they aim for victory and a memorable season. The anticipation is palpable, and the Wayne Eagles are poised to achieve great success on the court.
