The Kelso boys basketball team recently faced a series of challenging games, competing against three 4A opponents in a span of just four days, all hosted at their home ground. Despite the formidable competition, they emerged victorious in two impressive matches, demonstrating their resilience and strength.
Their week commenced with an impressive 69-54 triumph over Bethel on December 19th, only to encounter a setback with their first defeat of the season against Emerald Ridge, with a close score of 68-63, on Thursday. However, they quickly rebounded and secured a convincing 67-48 victory against Rogers (Puyallup) less than 24 hours later on Friday night, in front of their home crowd.
According to their coach, Joe Kinch, the team intentionally scheduled the three games in a week to prepare for the possibility of multiple postseason games in a single week. This strategic decision underscores their dedication and determination to excel in the sport.
One of the team’s pivotal players, Hayden Yore, emphasized how the experience brought the team closer together. Yore, who scored an impressive 25 points against Rogers, exhibited strong leadership and skills on the court.
Another standout player, Payton Stewart, showcased his prowess with an outstanding performance, leading the team with 24 points and 11 rebounds on Tuesday, followed by 29 points and 13 rebounds against Emerald Ridge. Stewart’s exceptional contributions significantly influenced the team’s success.
