Empowerment in Tennis: Daria Kasatkina’s Advocacy for Women’s Tennis Promotion

Renowned Russian tennis prodigy, Daria Kasatkina, recently conveyed her apprehensions regarding the promotion of women’s tennis within the WTA organization. In an engaging discussion on the “WHAT’S ON THE TOUR?” Podcast with host Angie, she openly articulated her discontent with the current state of women’s tennis promotion. Kasatkina pinpointed the dearth of deliberate promotion, specifically highlighting the detachment of the WTA from Tennis TV as a pivotal concern. She underscored the efficacy of the streaming platform, TennisTV, in promoting tennis, while expressing disappointment in the comparative shortfall of the WTA TV platform.

During her interview, Kasatkina also emphasised the underutilisation of the WTA’s TikTok account, observing the paucity of activity on the platform. With an illustrious career encompassing six singles titles and an appearance in the 2022 French Open semifinals, Kasatkina’s discerning insights shed light on the adversities encountered by female players within the WTA.

As the 26-year-old luminary looks towards the 2024 season, she maintains an optimistic outlook, expressing her resolve to continue competing until the age of 35. Whilst the trajectory of her professional journey beyond that remains uncertain, she embraces her future in the sport with sanguine anticipation.

Throughout the 2023 season, Kasatkina demonstrated her competitive mettle with noteworthy performances, culminating in reaching the finals of the Adelaide International 2 and Rothesay International, and progressing to the Round of 16 at the French Open and US Open. Her tenacity on the court has solidified her stature as a formidable presence in the sphere of women’s tennis.
