Exciting Week in Girls Basketball

The previous week in girls’ basketball has been quite eventful, with a range of impressive performances and thrilling matches taking place in the sport.

In the Three Rivers Conference, the Fillmore Central girls’ basketball team secured a significant 57-43 victory over La Crescent/Hokah, led by K. Broadwater who scored 24 points. This win was a satisfying conclusion to a five-game losing streak to the Lancers dating back to 2020. However, the team faced a challenging game against the #13 ranked AA Cotter, resulting in a 44-61 loss. Despite the efforts of Broadwater and O’Connor, Clarissa Sauer’s 31 points for Cotter proved to be decisive. Meanwhile, La Crescent/Hokah suffered a tough 44-66 defeat against Rushford-Peterson, with standout performances from Nadia Happel, E. Ekern, and Torryn Schneider for the winning team.

In the Southeast Conference, Houston emerged victorious with a solid 76-61 win over Southland, led by outstanding performances from A. Kingsley and Aubry Boldt, with the return of Emily Botcher providing a significant boost for the team. Schaeffer Academy also secured a 47-37 win over LeRoy-Ostrander, despite a strong display from Benita Nolt and Miranda Nagel.

The non-conference games featured some challenging matchups, including Houston’s 31-70 loss to #3 ranked A Hayfield, and LeRoy-Ostrander’s 55-67 defeat against Faribault B.A. However, Rushford-Peterson managed to secure a convincing 61-31 victory over Faribault B.A., with E. Ekern leading the charge with 22 points, and J. Foster of Caledonia put up an impressive 23 points in a Border Battle game against Decorah.

Overall, the week has seen a series of impressive performances and hard-fought games, and as the girls’ basketball season progresses, teams will be looking to build on these experiences to improve their performance in upcoming matches. It will be interesting to see what unfolds in the upcoming games.
