Binghamton Bearcats Triumph Over Chestnut Hill with 68-54 Win

The Binghamton University women’s basketball team emerged victorious with a 68-54 win over Chestnut Hill. Junior forward Genevieve Coleman impressed with 15 points, while freshman guard Bella Pucci achieved career highs with 13 points and nine rebounds. The game, held at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center, marked the Bearcats’ third consecutive win and their final non-conference game of the season.

Coleman went 7-of-12 from the field, including a successful three-point shot, and contributed two steals. Meanwhile, Pucci made 4-of-7 shots, hit 3-for-3 from three-point range, and sank both her free throws. She also led in rebounds with a total of nine. Additionally, Meghan Casey, a sophomore guard, also reached double-digit scoring with 10 points.

The game was a fierce battle, featuring seven lead changes in the first 21 minutes. However, the Bearcats took control with a remarkable 13-0 run, securing a 42-30 lead in the third period. Redshirt sophomore guard Jadyn Weltz played a crucial role in this game-changing stretch, contributing four points.

In the final period, the Bearcats further solidified their lead with a 14-4 run, ultimately establishing a 66-45 advantage with 4:44 remaining in regulation. Pucci showcased her prowess during this period, sinking two of her three-point field goals.

Coach Bethann Shapiro Ord praised the team’s performance, emphasizing the importance of executing fundamentals and maintaining the tempo. She also commended the team for their improved defense and scoring efficiency.

Despite Chestnut Hill’s formidable performance, Bridie McCann led all scorers with 21 points. Binghamton’s strong defense limited their opportunities, allowing the team to secure an 18-2 lead in points off of turnovers.

The game also saw the return of Reggie Daniels, the former assistant coach of Binghamton, who now serves as the head coach of Chestnut Hill. Shapiro Ord acknowledged Daniels’ leadership and predicted a successful season for Chestnut Hill in their league.

The victory against Chestnut Hill sets the stage for the Bearcats’ upcoming fixture against UMBC, marking the commencement of America East play. The Binghamton Bearcats are positioned to extend their winning streak, and fans are eager to witness their athleticism in the upcoming games.
