“Scarlet Knights Triumph Over Stonehill with Simpson’s Game-Winning Shot”

The Rutgers men’s basketball team achieved a thrilling victory over Stonehill in their non-conference finale at Jersey Mike’s Arena in Piscataway, N.J, prevailing with a score of 59-58. The game was a tense affair, culminating in a dramatic late three-pointer from sophomore guard Derek Simpson, propelling Rutgers to a one-point lead with just 12 seconds remaining. Simpson’s outstanding performance included 14 points, four assists, five rebounds, and two steals, highlighting his vital role in the team’s success.

Senior Clifford Omoruyi delivered an excellent performance, securing his fifth double-double of the season with an impressive 17 points, a career-high 17 rebounds, and three rejections. Additionally, grad Aundre Hyatt contributed 15 points and three boards, solidifying the team’s strong showing on the court.

Rutgers took an early 14-5 lead, setting the stage for an enthralling matchup. The first half ended with Rutgers maintaining a 35-29 lead, driven by the impressive performances of Omoruyi, Hyatt, and Simpson. Although Stonehill threatened with a 47-43 lead in the second half, Rutgers displayed resilience, ultimately regaining momentum to secure a hard-fought victory.

Head Coach Steve Pikiell expressed his gratitude to the football team for their victory in the Pinstripe Bowl and the enthusiastic support from the fans.
