The golf course at Black Desert Resort has recently been acknowledged by Golf Digest and Golfweek, two well-respected authorities in the golfing world. The esteemed golfing property in Ivins, Utah has received runner-up honours in Golf Digest’s ranking of Best New Courses and also made its debut at number 22 on Golfweek’s ranking of the Top 200 Residential Courses in the U.S. and at number 26 on the Top 200 Resort Courses in the U.S.
The competition for top honours was intense, with 25 new course openings in 2023, the most since 2010. The beautiful Black Desert Resort, surrounded by red rock mountains and ancient black lava fields, opened for play on May 27, 2023, and has immediately made an impact. The course is characterised by ancient basalt rock formations integrated into the landscape, creating a visually stunning contrast against the lush green fairways. With the visionary design capturing the spirit of the surrounding natural wonders, it offers a captivating golf experience that goes beyond tradition. The par-72 course, designed by Tom Weiskopf, and Phil Smith, boasts playability with most fairways being 70 to 100 yards wide. Furthermore, the course features two drivable par 4s that bring strategy and risk/reward elements into play.
Due to its outstanding design and features, Black Desert has already been chosen to host multiple professional events including The Black Desert Championship as part of the PGA TOUR’s 2024 FedExCup Fall and LPGA Tour in the spring of 2025.
As an environmentally-friendly property, Black Desert is the first Audubon International Signature Sanctuary Platinum enrollee in the state of Utah and one of the first in America. The sustainability-focused project currently features a 19-hole championship golf course, and there are further developments in the pipeline which will include a 150-room eco-hotel, along with various sporting and leisure facilities.
Managed by Troon Golf, Black Desert Resort offers a daily fee golf experience that is truly unparalleled. The amenities include a snack bar with unconventional finger foods, on-demand food and drink delivery service, high-tech carts with GPS navigation and well-stocked coolers.
