Reese Gaytan Propels Williamston Girls Basketball to Victory Over Holt

The Williamston girls’ basketball team secured a 42-36 victory over Holt on Tuesday evening, largely due to the exceptional performance of senior forward Reese Gaytan. While she initially scored only two points in the first half, Gaytan’s tenacity and resilience shone in the second half, contributing eight of her 10 points. Her noteworthy plays, including six points in the third quarter and a crucial basket in the final minute, were pivotal in the Hornets’ comeback triumph.

Coach Pete Cool spoke highly of Gaytan, describing her as the “ultimate competitor” and commending her unwavering dedication to the game. Gaytan’s performance, alongside key contributions from her teammates, such as Jaiden Griffith, Thea Fortin, and Abby Brannan, propelled Williamston to secure their third consecutive win. Looking back at the hard-earned victory, Gaytan expressed her pride in the team’s collective effort, stating, “We really picked it up. We knew what we had to do. We’ve had a lot of close games this season where it comes to a battle at the end. We really stepped it up on defense and offense at the end and gave it our all. I was really proud of our team.”

Holt, led by Rhema Dozier’s eight points, put up a strong fight throughout the game, but Williamston’s tenacity ultimately proved to be the deciding factor in securing the win.

In other girls’ basketball action, Dansville, Perry, Olivet, and St. Johns emerged victorious in their respective games, adding to the excitement of the high school basketball season.
