It is a pleasure to announce the reinstatement of golf at the esteemed Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club following an extended hiatus due to inclement weather conditions. Over the weekend, the club hosted two thrilling competitions, and on Tuesday, the Ladies participated in a competitive event.
During the Stableford event on Sunday, Craig McGown emerged as the champion in the top division, securing an impressive 41 points. Mark Coleman claimed the second spot with 39 points, followed by Gary Wide in third place with 37 points. Kevin Parker clinched victory in the first medal round of the year, narrowly edging out John Snell, Adam Cridlin, and Ian Bowidge, who all finished with a commendable 67 points.
In Division Two, Paul Laming showcased his skills by shooting a spectacular nett 65, securing the top spot. Ken Rees and Andrew Tidesley fought for the runner-up position, scoring 68 points each, with Paul Thorogood finishing in fourth place with 70 points. Division Three saw Marc Jones emerge victorious with an impressive 66 points, closely followed by Gary Nightingill and Dave Stephenson, who finished with 67 and 69 points, respectively.
The Ladies’ Betterball Stableford on Tuesday concluded with Jackie Pike, Roz Pocklington, and Heather Crump emerging as the deserving winners after a spirited display. The competition was fiercely contested, with Jan Olive, Ali McGown, and Annie George finishing in a close second place. Carolyne Fawcett, Fiona Snell, and Barbara Barber secured the third spot with an impressive performance.
In addition to the electrifying golf on display, Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club unveiled a striking Memorial Garden situated near the first tee. The idea was sparked by the passing of esteemed Past Captain and Chairman of T&PGC, Ken Hinchliffe, whose wish was to have his ashes scattered on the course. Former Club Captain Jacky Ford generously donated the Memorial garden to T&P, expressing that the garden serves as a designated area for relatives to conduct their own private service.
As we celebrate the return of golf and the unveiling of the beautiful Memorial Garden, let us remember the importance of sportsmanship and camaraderie that is at the heart of our beloved sport.
We welcome your thoughts and opinions on this heartwarming return of golf and the creation of the Memorial Garden, and look forward to engaging with our valued community. Thank you for being part of this exciting journey with us.
