Victorious Friars: Providence Women’s Hockey Triumphs Over Holy Cross

The women’s hockey team of Providence College emerged victorious in a 5-2 win against the Holy Cross Crusaders at Schneider Arena in Providence, Rhode Island. Led by Reichen Kirchmair and Lindsay Bochna, the Friars secured the win with an impressive display of talent. Goalkeeper Hope Walinski from Lincoln, Rhode Island, made 17 saves throughout the game, contributing to the team’s success.

The game commenced with Brooke Becker scoring the first goal for the Friars, followed by Holy Cross’ Lulu Rourke equalizing the score 1-1 at the end of the first period. In the second period, Kirchmair and Bochna, with assistance from teammates, scored two goals to solidify the Friars’ lead. Audrey Knapp further extended their lead, and Bochna sealed the victory with a final goal on an empty net.

This win marks the Friars’ third consecutive victory, their longest winning streak of the season. Additionally, Providence has recorded a strong 5-1-1 record in its last seven Hockey East games, demonstrating an improvement to 9-8-1 in league action.

In terms of game statistics, Providence dominated in shots, face-offs, and power plays, showcasing their formidable performance on the ice. With Kirchmair recording 9 shots and 2 goals, and a range of players contributing goals and assists, the team displayed a cohesive and impressive effort.

Looking ahead, the Friars are gearing up to face Boston College in a home-and-home series. On Friday, January 26, Providence will host the Eagles at Schneider Arena, followed by a match in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts on Saturday, January 27.
