Boost off the Bench: Swarthmore Women’s Basketball Secures Win with Strong Bench Performance

On Thursday night, Swarthmore women’s basketball achieved a significant victory thanks to the remarkable performance of their bench players. Carly Murphy emerged as the standout player of the game, contributing 14 points off the bench and playing a key role in leading the Garnet to a 58-49 triumph over Washington College. Notably, 30 of Swarthmore’s 58 points were scored by their bench players, underscoring the pivotal role they played in the team’s success.

In addition to Murphy’s outstanding performance, Dana Bandurick scored 12 points and secured nine rebounds, while Alyssa Hayashi added 10 points. The Garnet, with a 9-9 record in the Centennial conference, dominated the first half, establishing a commanding 32-15 lead and limiting Washington College to just 27.3 percent shooting.

In a separate fixture, Ursinus emerged victorious over Haverford with a score of 55-43. Despite Ally Landau’s 19-point contribution, Haverford was unable to sustain their strong performance in the second half, only managing to score 18 points after the break. Siena Emuobor also made a notable impact, scoring 10 points and securing five rebounds for Haverford.

Shifting the focus to men’s basketball, Michael Caprise delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 21 points, grabbing 15 rebounds, and dishing out four assists in a 76-55 win over Washington College. Vinny DeAngelo also played a crucial role, contributing 19 points and six assists, while Nyle Coleman added 12 points to secure the impressive victory.

However, local teams faced challenges as well, with Towson halting Drexel’s unbeaten start to the CAA campaign with a 70-67 win. Nendah Tarke led the way for Towson with 18 points, while Justin Moore stood out for the Dragons, scoring 17 points and providing five assists. Despite a strong contribution of 14 points and 11 rebounds from Amari Williams, it was not enough to secure the win for Drexel.

In a separate game, Ursinus clinched a 77-60 victory over Haverford, with Trevor Wall leading the charge with 17 points. Despite a valiant effort from Gabriel Franklin, who scored 24 points for Haverford, and contributions from Ali Kaan Bek and Logan Brown, Ursinus outscored the Fords 44-30 in the second half to seal the win.
