Arkansas basketball’s Davonte Davis has made the decision to take a break from the program, marking the second time in two years that he has opted to leave the team during the middle of the season. The announcement was made just 15 minutes before the Razorbacks’ home game against No. 6 Kentucky.
Davis played a significant role in Arkansas’ success in last year’s NCAA Tournament, leaving behind a notable legacy with his impressive performance of 25 points and 8 rebounds in the Hogs’ Round of 32 win over No. 1 seed Kansas, as well as his 16-point contribution in their First Round victory over Illinois.
The departure of Davis has come as a surprise to many, particularly as he did not meet the high expectations set for him in his senior year. Throughout 18 games, he achieved an average of 6.7 points and a shooting percentage of 35.8%, which were notably lower than his previous performances.
This is not the first time that Davis has left the Arkansas basketball program, as a similar situation occurred last year when he took a brief hiatus of just two days before returning to the team. At the time of his departure, the Razorbacks stand at 10-9, with a 1-5 record in SEC play.
The future of Arkansas basketball now seems uncertain without Davis, especially considering his valuable contributions in the past. It is hoped that the team will find success despite this setback and that Davis will be able to address any personal challenges he may be facing.
As the Razorbacks continue with their season, it is expected that they can overcome this obstacle and continue to compete at the highest level. Although Davis’ departure presents a challenge, there is potential for growth, development, and new opportunities for the team in the wake of this decision.
