Creighton University’s women’s basketball team has achieved their sixth consecutive victory by securing a hard-fought 57-49 win over Seton Hall. The Bluejays’ exceptional defensive performance resulted in keeping Seton Hall scoreless for over eight minutes in the fourth quarter, leading to a well-deserved triumph.
Following this victory, Creighton’s record has improved to 16-3, positioning them in second place with a 7-2 BIG EAST record at the midway point. Meanwhile, Seton Hall’s record stands at 12-8 overall and 4-5 in league play after experiencing a pattern of alternating wins and losses over the past seven games.
The game initially saw Creighton trailing in the first quarter, but a three-point play from Emma Ronsiek propelled them to a 15-13 lead. Ronsiek’s impressive performance continued as she scored eight additional points during a 13-3 run in the second quarter. Additionally, Lauren Jensen made significant contributions with two successful three-pointers, allowing Creighton to head into halftime with a 33-24 lead. At this point, Ronsiek led all players with 13 points, while Azana Baines contributed nine of Seton Hall’s 11 points.
Despite Seton Hall’s efforts to close the gap in the third quarter, Creighton managed to maintain their lead. The Bluejays took their largest lead of the game at 36-24 before Seton Hall mounted a 10-0 run to reduce the deficit. However, key plays from Ronsiek and Morgan Maly helped Creighton regain an eight-point lead by the end of the third quarter.
In the final quarter, Creighton’s defensive prowess was on full display as they prevented Seton Hall from scoring for over seven minutes. Although both Jensen and Ronsiek accumulated their fourth personal fouls during this period, Seton Hall missed 14 consecutive shots before finally scoring. Ultimately, Creighton secured the win by capitalizing on free throw opportunities, while Seton Hall struggled to convert their field goal attempts.
Ronsiek led Creighton with an impressive 18 points, followed closely by Jensen and Maly, who each contributed 16 points. On the opposing side, Baines stood out for Seton Hall with 19 points, despite a scoreless first quarter.
