The mother from West Bay, Tracey Jovanovic, has expressed deep gratitude to the medical support team at Bridport Rugby Club for their quick and efficient response to her son’s accident during a recent match. Her 18-year-old son, Bert, was playing in a rugby match when he fell and landed awkwardly on his neck, leaving him temporarily immobile. Tracey was on the scene and witnessed the medical team’s rapid and professional action, commending their calm and collective response to the situation.
She described the team’s response as a “well-oiled machine” where everyone knew their role and worked together to ensure Bert’s safety until the ambulance arrived. As a parent, Tracey felt reassured by the team’s expertise and their ability to keep Bert’s spirits up during the ordeal. She also praised the club’s investment in ensuring the safety and well-being of all its members, highlighting the sense of community and care present at the club.
Bert has been a part of the junior team at Bridport since the age of eight and was recently invited to join the South West Division adults’ team. Tracey expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Paul Conde, Johanna Leins, Ross Duncan, and Pete Dacey, as well as to Katy Tozer, a trainee paramedic who was visiting the club, and George Hussey, who assisted in directing the ambulance to the scene.
Following the accident, Bert was quickly transported to Dorset County Hospital where he underwent a neck scan and was thankfully given the all-clear. The Jovanovic family has been deeply touched by the outpouring of support and care they received from the rugby club and its members. Tracey mentioned a personal call from the club’s President, Peter Brook, who checked in on their well-being after the incident, emphasising the role the club has played in helping them integrate into the Bridport community since they moved to the area a decade ago.
Despite the scare, Bert continues to be an active member of the Bridport team, all while pursuing his passion for theatre as a performing arts student at Weymouth College. In fact, he recently showcased his talent by portraying the character of Lurch in the production of “The Addams Family”, presented by the Bridport Young Performers.
It is heartwarming to see such a strong display of community and support in times of need, and the Jovanovic family is immensely thankful to everyone at Bridport Rugby Club for their role in ensuring Bert’s safety and well-being.
As we engage with this heartwarming story, let us reflect on the importance of community and the support we can offer one another in both times of celebration and times of difficulty. It is a reminder of the impact that sports clubs and community organisations can have on the lives of individuals and families in the local area. Let us continue to foster a culture of care, support, and togetherness in our communities, just as the Bridport Rugby Club has demonstrated.
