Heartbreaking Loss for Brown Bears in Men’s Basketball Match against Dartmouth

This recent Saturday, the men’s basketball team of Brown University suffered a challenging defeat against Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire. The match, occurring during Dartmouth’s alumni weekend, witnessed the Bears relinquishing a 14-point advantage and ultimately succumbing 75-71 to the Big Green.

Before the game, the Bears were resolute in recovering from their narrow loss to Cornell the previous week, while Dartmouth was keen on securing their first Ivy League triumph of the season, buoyed by a crowd of over 800 supporters.

Despite the disheartening loss, Malachi Ndur ’24, who delivered an impressive 14-point performance along with three rebounds and three blocks, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to overcome their challenges. Ndur stated, “As a team, we want to bounce back from the performance and outcome against Dartmouth. I know we will turn things around and make it to the Ivy League tournament.”

Fellow teammate Nana Owusu-Anane ’25, who had delivered a season-high 21-point performance in the previous week’s game, continued to impress with a 20-point and nine-rebound performance, showcasing his dominance on the court. Kino Lilly Jr. ’25, Felix Kloman ’24, Aaron Cooley ’25, and Kalu Anya ’26 also showcased their skills as part of the starting lineup.

Early in the game, the Bears embarked on an impressive 10-0 run, seizing a 12-3 lead just six minutes into the match. Fueled by potent three-point shooting and exceptional performance from Owusu-Anane, Brown’s offense overwhelmed Dartmouth’s defense, leading to a game-high 14-point lead at halftime.

The Bears also exhibited an outstanding defensive game, forcing turnovers and capitalizing on them to maintain their dominant lead heading into halftime. However, Dartmouth managed to regain momentum in the second half, significantly reducing Brown’s lead.

Despite a strong performance from Ndur and Kimo Ferrari ’24, the Bears were unable to maintain their lead in the final minutes, leading to a heartbreaking 75-71 loss. The team is now preparing for a double-header at the Pizzitola Sports Center this coming weekend, where they will host Penn and Princeton.
