The Boston University women’s tennis team achieved a hard-earned 4-3 victory against Portland at the Weymouth Club on Friday. Despite facing tough competition, BU displayed exceptional skill and determination to secure the win.
The match commenced with a competitive round of doubles play, during which the Terriers’ senior Victoria Carlsten and junior Nina Gulbransen emerged triumphant with a 6-2 win on Court 3. Despite Portland securing a win at the top of the lineup, junior Michelle Kleynerman and freshman Uma Bakaityte rallied to claim a 7-5 victory at the No. 2 spot, ultimately securing the crucial doubles point for BU.
Building on their success in the doubles matches, the Terriers maintained their momentum in the singles rounds. Junior Kaitlin Tan delivered a strong performance, securing BU’s first singles point with a commanding 6-2, 6-3 win at line three. Bakaityte continued to impress, extending her unbeaten singles streak this season with a solid 6-4, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 spot.
Portland fought back with a win at line six, narrowing the score to 3-1. However, sophomore Emily Zhao delivered a stellar performance, clinching the win for the Terriers with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 spot. Although Portland managed to secure wins in the remaining singles spots, BU’s early lead proved decisive in securing the overall victory.
The hard-fought win against Portland sets the stage for BU’s upcoming match against URI on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The Terriers are determined to carry their winning momentum into this next challenge as they continue to showcase their talent and dedication on the court.
