Recognizing Outstanding SouthCoast High School Boys Basketball Players for January 27th-February 4th

The focus this week falls on the highly skilled high school boys basketball players from SouthCoast, each showcasing their abilities and leaving their mark in the competition. Of particular note is Craig Baptista from New Bedford, who emerged as the victor in last week’s Boys Basketball Player of the Week poll, capturing the attention of voters and clinching the title with an impressive 5,000 votes, which represented 74% of the total votes cast. His outstanding performance included making five 3-pointers and contributing 22 points to lead the Whalers to victory over Dennis-Yarmouth.

Following in the footsteps of previous winners such as Jhaden Reis of GNB Voc-Tech, Aaron Cote of Wareham, Joseph Goodine of New Bedford, and Ryan Ptaszenski of Fairhaven, we now turn our attention to the contenders for the top boys basketball player from January 27th to February 4th. The competition has been intense, with players showcasing their skills and competing for the coveted title.

Caiden Cyr of Apponequet impressed with a total of 52 points, 16 assists, and 15 rebounds across three games, while Nathan Levesque delivered commendable back-to-back double-doubles, tallying a total of 41 points and 40 rebounds in two of the Lakers’ games last week. Frank Vollaro from Bishop Stang made a lasting impression with a stellar performance, contributing a total of 52 points, including an impressive 31-point game against Arlington Catholic. Similarly, Adam Mogawer of Dartmouth displayed prowess on the court, scoring a total of 38 points in two games, and Johan Valdez stood out with a team-high 24 points in a game against New Bedford.

The talented Ayden Duguay of Fairhaven showcased his skills, averaging 15.5 points in a pair of games, while his teammate, Hansen Zhao, contributed a combined 33 points in consecutive wins for the Blue Devils. Craig Baptista, who has been consistently strong in his scoring, once again demonstrated his prowess on the court, leading the Whalers in three consecutive games with a total of 52 points. Additionally, Anthony Diakite of New Bedford had an impact, securing 22 rebounds in a game against Bridgewater-Raynham, along with eight points.

Shifting focus to the realm of speed and endurance, we highlight the remarkable performances of talented female athletes. Max Finney of Old Colony stood out with a total of 34 points and 18 rebounds in back-to-back wins, while Nick Fringuelli delivered a commendable double-double, scoring 15 points and securing 10 rebounds in a victorious game against South Shore. Zack Mourao of Old Rochester showcased his talents, amassing a total of 27 points in two games, and Antoine Crosson of Wareham impressed with a combined total of 25 points in games against Bishop Hendricken and GNB Voc-Tech. Ajay Lopes, also from Wareham, scored a team-high 17 points, contributing to the Vikings’ victory over Bishop Hendricken, and Jayce Travers showcased his skills with a combined total of 35 points across three games.

As the competition intensifies and the players continue to shine, the SouthCoast High School Boys Basketball Player of the Week for January 27th-February 4th is yet to be decided.
