India’s Women’s Hockey Team Suffers 0-3 Defeat to Australia in FIH Hockey Pro League Clash

The Indian women’s hockey team suffered a challenging 0-3 defeat against Australia in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24. The event, held at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar, witnessed Grace Stewart (19’), Tatum Stewart (23’), and Kaitlin Nobbs (55’) of Australia as the scorers for the day.

India initiated the game strongly, exerting early pressure on Australia and compelling them to concede a penalty corner in the second minute. However, Australia’s goalkeeper Zoe Newman promptly averted any potential threats. Both teams continued to create scoring opportunities, but it was Australia who succeeded in capitalizing on their chances.

As the match unfolded, Australia took the lead with a goal from Grace Stewart, followed by another goal from Tatum Stewart through a penalty corner. Despite India’s endeavors to score, they were unable to breach Australia’s defense, resulting in a 2-0 advantage in Australia’s favor at the conclusion of the first half.

During the third quarter, India encountered difficulties in finding an opening, while Australia maintained their lead. India had an opportunity to score from a penalty corner, but failed to convert, enabling Australia to maintain their two-goal lead.

In the final quarter, India intensified their offensive efforts, seeking to narrow the deficit. Nevertheless, Australia extended their lead with a goal from Kaitlin Nobbs, bringing the score to 3-0. Despite India’s late attempts to score, Australia’s defense and goalkeeping remained unwavering, culminating in a 3-0 victory for Australia.

Subsequent to this defeat, India is scheduled to face the United States on 9th February in their upcoming match.
