Controversy Surrounds Ealing Council’s Plans for Perivale Park Golf Club

The recent decision made by the Ealing Council to close down the Perivale Park Golf Course has incited indignation among its members, with club spokesman Dave Chapman accusing the council of employing deceptive tactics to mislead residents.

In a formal statement, Chapman expressed his frustration with the council’s management of the situation, particularly concerning the public consultation process. He emphasized the inconsistency between the council’s assurance to consider informed opinions and factual feasibility studies, and their subsequent declaration that 77% of respondents supported the council’s proposal to establish a regional park with a cultural venue. Chapman argued that the 6,000 respondents represented only 2% of the adult population of Ealing, thereby casting doubt on the council’s claim of overwhelming support.

Moreover, Chapman articulated concerns about the legitimacy of the consultation process, highlighting the council’s failure to furnish complete details of the consultation and the use of a manipulated photograph to represent Ealing residents in favor of the park on their social media platforms. He accused the council of manipulating the consultation to seek validation of their predetermined plans, rather than genuinely seeking input from residents and stakeholders.

The matter of constructing in a flood zone was also called into question, with the Brent River and Canal Society cautioning against the perils of such development. Perivale Golf course is situated in a flood zone, and Chapman drew attention to the potential risks of constructing a cultural venue in this area.

In consideration of these concerns, Chapman urged the council to reconsider their plans and to meaningfully engage with the community to ensure that the best interests of residents and stakeholders are taken into account.

The controversy surrounding the fate of the Perivale Park Golf Club emphasizes the significance of transparent and inclusive decision-making processes when it comes to significant developments within the local community. It is indeed imperative for local authorities to uphold the trust of their constituents by adhering to the principles of fairness and accountability in their decision-making processes.
