“University of Hawai’i Women’s Basketball Team Claims Victory Over UC San Diego”

The women’s basketball team at the University of Hawai’i secured a decisive 64-52 victory over UC San Diego at LionTree Arena in La Jolla, California on Thursday, further cementing their status as the top team in the Big West conference with a 10-2 record.

Lily Wahinekapu emerged as a standout performer in the game, achieving a season-high of four 3-pointers and a total of 16 points, along with four assists and seven rebounds. Additionally, guard Daejah Phillips, who was recently named Big West Player of the Week, contributed 11 points and eight rebounds. This victory was truly a team effort, with eight UH players contributing at least four points and seven securing at least one assist. The Rainbow Wahine matched their season highs with 24 field goals and 15 assists, demonstrating exceptional teamwork.

This recent win marks the second time this season that the University of Hawai’i has defeated UC San Diego. They completed a clean sweep of the season series, with both games ending in a score of 64-52 in favor of the Rainbow Wahine. UH showcased their dominance by leading for all but 1 minute and 50 seconds of the 80 minutes of play time.

Despite a strong double-double performance from UCSD forward Damilola Sule and Gracie Gallegos leading the Tritons with 13 points, UH’s defensive capabilities were evident with five steals in the first quarter and 12 points scored off turnovers.
