The 2024 season of high school girls’ basketball in Tulare County has seen the crowning of its champions. Mission Oak, Monache, and Farmersville have all emerged victorious in their respective leagues, showcasing the talent and determination of their players and coaches.
At Mission Oak High School, the motto “Built a tradition, creating a legacy” encapsulated the mindset of the girls’ basketball team this season. Their dedication and hard work paid off when they secured at least a share of the 2024 West Yosemite League championship after a resounding 75-41 victory over Hanford. This win marked their second consecutive WYL title and their 20th victory of the season. Coach Dave Caetano praised the team’s success, attributing it to the consistent coaching staff and the influx of talented players, particularly the strong leadership of their senior class.
In the East Yosemite League, Monache dominated the competition with an impressive 27-2 overall record and a perfect 10-0 league record. The Marauders showcased their commitment and dedication to the game by outscoring their opponents by a substantial margin and demonstrated their strength by securing wins against competitive Division I-based programs. Alisha Verdejo, the reigning EYL most valuable player, led the team with her experience and skill, guiding a talented group of underclassmen who have played together since the third grade.
Meanwhile, in the East Sequoia League-Redwood, Farmersville clinched their second consecutive league championship with a solid 7-1 record. Janessa Garza and Jazmaine Stewart were instrumental in the Aztecs’ success, both surpassing 1,000 career points and leading their team to victory in the season finale.
The triumphs of these teams reflect the dedication and talent in girls’ high school basketball in Tulare County. As the season culminates, all eyes are on the upcoming Central Section playoffs, where these championship-winning teams will look to continue their winning ways and make a mark on a larger stage.
