Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, is reportedly considering a move for three Chelsea stars if he becomes the head coach at Bayern Munich. The current Bayern Munich coach, Thomas Tuchel, is facing significant pressure after a 3-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, which has left Bayern Munich five points behind their rivals in the title race and puts their 11 successive Bundesliga titles in serious jeopardy.
Reports suggest that the 61-year-old Mourinho is even studying German in preparation for a potential role at Bayern. This move could also provide an opportunity for Mourinho to win a league title in a fifth different country, having previously achieved top-flight success in Portugal, Italy, England, and Spain.
As Chelsea is expected to undergo a fire sale due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, Mourinho may have his eye on some Chelsea players. One player of particular interest to Mourinho is Romelu Lukaku, whom he worked with at Manchester United and later brought on loan to Roma before his dismissal in January.
Another player who may catch Mourinho’s attention is Eric Dier, whom he previously worked with at Tottenham. Dier is currently on loan at Valencia, and it is uncertain if Mourinho would consider reuniting with the midfielder. Additionally, Mourinho may also be exploring the possibility of signing 23-year-old Wesley Fofana, given Chelsea’s need to raise funds, considering they paid £70 million for his services in 2022.
Moroccan star Hakim Ziyech, currently on loan at Galatasaray, could also be on Mourinho’s radar. Ziyech’s contract expires in 2025 and could potentially be a value deal for any interested clubs.
These are all speculative possibilities at this stage, and it remains to be seen if Mourinho will attempt to rebuild the Bayern Munich side using talent from his former clubs.
The outcome of Mourinho’s potential appointment at Bayern Munich, and which players he may target from Chelsea, remains uncertain. The situation is ongoing, and it would be an interesting reunion for Mourinho and some of the players he previously managed.
