Casper College Dominates Gillette College in Women’s Basketball Showdown

On an exhilarating Sophomore Night, the Casper College women’s basketball team exhibited their dominance as they emerged victorious over Gillette College with a final score of 72-52 at the Swede Erickson Thunderbird Gym. This noteworthy win solidifies the T-Birds’ position at the top of the conference standings with four remaining games in the regular season.

The game commenced with a strong start, with the No. 22 T-Birds seizing an early lead by securing the first six points. Luca Acs and Logann Alvar spearheaded the team, showcasing their expertise on the court. The Pronghorns from Gillette College struggled to keep pace, finally registering on the scoreboard almost seven minutes into the game.

The T-Birds sustained their lead throughout the game, concluding the first half with a commanding 34-18 advantage. Casper College’s outstanding defensive play limited Gillette College to a mere 25.9% shooting in the first half, while the T-Birds managed to score at a rate of 44.1%.

The third quarter witnessed a dominant performance from Andi Schissler and Angela Astorga, who extended the T-Birds’ lead even further. Astorga finished with a team-high 17 points, followed by Schissler with 14 points, and Paula Barajas-Ruiz and Luca Acs each contributing 10 points.

On the opposing side, Marija Marinkovic led the Pronghorns with 17 points, but it was insufficient to overcome the T-Birds’ formidable performance.

Looking ahead, Casper College will compete against Northwest College in their next game.
