Golfers Rally Together to Save Perivale Park Golf Course from Closure

The centenary celebration of the Perivale Park Golf Course brought together golf enthusiasts from Ealing and beyond, who convened to demonstrate their unwavering support amidst the impending threat of closure by the Labour-run Ealing Council. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of the golf course, players remained resolute as they convened for a day of golf on a delightful Thursday, 15th February 2024.

Lakhvir Rai, the vice club captain, expressed his elation at the ideal weather conditions for the game and the substantial turnout of golfers from both within and beyond the borough. He underscored the unique appeal of the Perivale course as a venue for enhancing golfing skills and gearing up for the forthcoming season. Nevertheless, concerns were articulated concerning the future of the beloved course, with Mr. Rai acknowledging the apprehensions surrounding the public consultation on the proposed new regional park and the fate of the golf course.

In an effort to dispel misconceptions about the alleged underutilization of the course, Mr. Rai disclosed staggering revelations from a freedom of information request, which unveiled the astounding figure of 30,000 rounds of golf played on the course in 2022, amounting to an average of 80 rounds per day. Additionally, he expressed gratitude towards Councillor Polly Knewstub for publicly refuting claims that the decision to close the course was purely economic, thereby shedding light on the genuine motivations behind the potential closure.

During the public consultation, the golf club submitted plans for tree planting, rewilding, and alternative space usage, aiming to showcase their dedication towards playing a pivotal role in the envisioned Ealing regional park. As they anxiously await the council’s decision, the golfers maintain an optimistic outlook that their proposals will be earnestly considered.

In response to mounting pressure from the community, Ealing Council has pledged to unveil the results of the public consultation by the conclusion of the month, leaving both the golfers and local residents in eager anticipation of the fate of the cherished Perivale Park Golf Course.
