Arizona Wildcats Hockey Dominates ASU in Tucson, Clinching 6th Straight Cactus Cup Win

The Arizona Wildcats hockey team exhibited a commendable performance as they secured a double victory against their rivals, the ASU Sun Devils, in a two-game series at home. The first game resulted in a 5-3 triumph for the Wildcats, followed by an even closer 6-5 victory in the second game. With a season record of 15 wins and 15 losses, Arizona hockey has claimed the sixth position overall in the WCHL. Despite the perception of a mediocre season, the Wildcats concluded with a strong 7-5 record in their 2024 games and achieved more road wins compared to the previous season.

The series marked the conclusion of the Wildcats’ season, underscoring their resilience and determination in securing victories. The first game, held on Thursday, February 15, began with an early ASU goal, initially placing the Wildcats at a disadvantage. However, the team swiftly recovered and showcased exceptional offensive skills, resulting in a 5-3 victory. The second game on Saturday, February 17, proved to be equally intense, with the Wildcats ultimately clinching a 6-5 win.

Looking ahead, the Wildcats are scheduled to play an exhibition match against the Arizona Coyotes Alumni on Saturday, February 24 at the Tucson Convention Center. As the team prepares for the ACHA National Tournament, where they are ranked as the 19th best team, they are poised to emerge as formidable contenders in the upcoming competition in St. Louis. Overall, the Wildcats are prepared to continue their winning streak and strive for further success in their future games and tournaments.
