The women’s basketball team from Duke University displayed admirable effort, but ultimately faced defeat against the resilient No. 19 Notre Dame during a high-stakes match on Monday night. Despite a strong start by the Blue Devils, turnovers plagued them in the second half, resulting in a 70-62 victory for the Fighting Irish.

The annual Pink Out game at Cameron Indoor Stadium created an electrifying atmosphere as the two teams vied for a crucial win in the ACC standings. Both Duke and Notre Dame were coming off losses in conference play, making this game a pivotal moment for their postseason aspirations.

The first half was a defensive struggle, with both teams fiercely competing for every point. Duke managed to secure a narrow 30-27 lead at halftime, but Notre Dame quickly mounted a comeback in the second half, showcasing their trademark tenacity and determination.

Turnovers became a significant issue for Duke as Notre Dame’s relentless defence forced them into difficult situations, resulting in 23 points off turnovers for the Fighting Irish. Despite Duke’s efforts to regain momentum, Notre Dame’s defensive prowess and offensive firepower proved to be the difference in the game.

Freshman standout Hannah Hidalgo led the charge for Notre Dame, displaying her scoring ability and defensive prowess throughout the contest. Duke’s Reigan Richardson provided a spirited offensive performance, but it was not enough to overcome Notre Dame’s persistent resilience.

Moving forward, Duke will regroup and aim to bounce back on the road against ACC rival Syracuse. Despite the setback, the Blue Devils remain determined to make a strong push as they approach the upcoming ACC tournament.
