Colorado College Hockey Suffers Heartbreak Tie Against Omaha

The 10th-ranked Colorado College ice hockey team came close to splitting their series with the 19th-ranked Omaha Mavericks, only for their hopes to be dashed by a late equalizer that resulted in a 1-1 tie. The Mavericks ultimately won the subsequent shootout, earning an extra point in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference standings.

The Tigers took an early lead in the game, with freshman Bret Link scoring at 3:25 of the first period. However, Omaha staged a comeback in the third period, outshooting CC 19-3 and eventually scoring the game-tying goal with just under three minutes left in regulation. This marked the Tigers’ only goal of the weekend, a sharp contrast to their previous performance against North Dakota.

Despite their inability to secure a win, CC coach Kris Mayotte commended his team’s strong start and execution in the early stages of the game. However, he also acknowledged that they were unable to maintain their momentum, crediting both the Mavericks and his own team for the outcome. Mayotte also expressed gratitude for the exceptional performance of his goalkeeper, praising him as the best in the country.

The game officially ended as a tie, as no goals were scored during overtime. Nevertheless, Omaha’s victory in the shootout has significant implications for the standings.

The disappointment of the tie serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of sports, leaving the Tigers with lessons to be learned and areas for improvement as they look ahead to future matches.
