Wabash College has once again emerged as the victorious team at the North Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament for the third consecutive year, securing the championship title. Their latest triumph has earned them a coveted spot in the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament. Notably, the college had previously clinched regular season conference championships in 2021-22 and 2023-24.
The Little Giants were led by Ahmoni Jones, who scored an impressive 22 points and was honoured as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament for the second consecutive year, earning the esteemed Al Van Wie Award. Additionally, Noah Hupmann made a significant impact, breaking the NCAC tournament record for blocked shots with a staggering 16 in three games. His exceptional performance led to his inclusion in the All-Tournament team, following a stellar display of five blocks, 11 rebounds, and seven points in the final game.
In the previous season, Wabash secured a narrow victory with a late basket from Jones, and this year’s game proved to be equally intense.
Wabash demonstrated their dominance on the court by making 14 out of 24 three-point shots, showcasing exceptional precision with a shooting accuracy of 58.3%. Their outstanding performance enabled them to establish a solid lead and sustain it throughout the game, ultimately emerging triumphant with a score of 75-64.
During the first half, both teams were evenly matched, with neither able to extend a lead beyond three points. However, Wabash gained momentum as Jones, Beaver, and their teammates landed impressive shots, capitalising on Wooster’s turnovers to maintain their advantage. Despite Wooster’s efforts to narrow the gap, Wabash’s commanding lead proved insurmountable, firmly securing their victory.
Wabash College now awaits the official NCAA announcement on Monday at 1 p.m. to learn about their opponent and the location of the opening weekend of the DIII Tournament.
This outstanding achievement undeniably solidifies Wabash College’s status as a dominant force in men’s college basketball, and the team’s remarkable journey to three consecutive NCAC Men’s Basketball Tournament titles is a testament to their unwavering dedication and exceptional talent.
