Women’s Hockey Season Ends in Quarterfinal Defeat against Amherst

The Bowdoin women’s ice hockey team concluded their season with a 2-0 loss to top-seeded Amherst in the quarterfinals, resulting in the Polar Bears finishing the season with an 8-14-3 record, while the Mammoths advanced with a 21-2-2 record. Throughout the season, Bowdoin had engaged in three closely contested matches with Amherst, suffering one-goal losses in both regular season encounters.

During the first period, Amherst outshot Bowdoin 15-5, yet the score remained at a standstill, tied at 0-0 going into the first intermission. However, the Mammoths gained the advantage early in the second period when Marie-Eve Marleau’s pass found Maeve Reynolds, who scored from just outside the crease. Despite both teams managing nine shots on goal in the second period, the Polar Bears held their own against the Amherst attack.

Despite Bowdoin’s valiant efforts, Amherst secured the game in the final two minutes with an empty-net goal. During the game, Bowdoin failed to capitalize on their power play opportunities, going 0-for-1, while Amherst was also unsuccessful, going 0-for-3. Sarah Peterson, in the losing effort, made 34 saves, while Natalie Scott achieved a 23-save shutout for Amherst.

While this defeat marked the conclusion of Bowdoin’s women’s ice hockey team’s season, their hard-fought efforts deserve commendation. The Athletic Department takes pride in the unwavering determination and exceptional performance displayed by the entire team throughout the season.

Looking ahead, the team’s focus will now shift towards the forthcoming season, as they aim to return with increased vigour and readiness.
