Elena Norman Steps Down as CEO of Hockey India

The resignation of Elena Norman, who has held the position of CEO of Hockey India for nearly 13 years, marks a significant transition for the organization. Her tenure has been characterized by notable achievements for both the Indian men’s and women’s teams, including their attainment of their highest world rankings and the historic bronze medal win for the men’s team at the Tokyo Olympics, marking the end of a 41-year medal drought.

Under Norman’s leadership, Hockey India has successfully hosted several major international events, such as two editions of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup, two FIH Junior Men’s World Cup tournaments, and five editions of the Hockey India League. Additionally, her guidance has been instrumental in the success of the women’s team, culminating in their first Olympic qualification in 36 years for the 2016 Rio Olympics and securing another Olympic berth in 2019.

In response to Norman’s resignation, Hockey India President Padma Shri Dr. Dilip Tirkey conveyed his deep appreciation for her unwavering dedication and immense contributions to the sport. As a former player and passionate hockey supporter, Dr. Tirkey lauded Norman for her exceptional efforts over the past 12-13 years, recognizing the pivotal role she played in the advancement of Hockey India and Indian hockey to their current commendable standing. He extended his best wishes for her future endeavours.
