The Hilliard Club Hockey Team is making preparations for the club high school national tournament after securing their second state championship in three seasons. Their recent 6-3 victory over Miami in the Buckeye Cup state final has earned them a place in the forthcoming national tournament, scheduled to be held from March 20-24 in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
With an impressive record of 39-13-2, the Wildcats delivered a stellar performance in the state final at the Queen City Sportsplex in Cincinnati. Andrew Masteller and Taggart Braley both scored two goals each, while Dominic DelBoccio, Brady Gedman, and Ethan Pate each contributed a goal, leading to the team’s victory. Goalie Wesley Reichman’s outstanding 19 saves played a crucial role in Hilliard’s flawless 5-0 weekend finish.
In his third season with the team and first as head coach, Coach David Cox expressed that it was a particularly special weekend for the seniors and their parents. The team’s unwavering preparation and dedication are now focused on the upcoming nationals. Hilliard has previously participated in nationals, achieving a commendable ninth place in a field of 16 teams two years ago following their first state title win.
James Tarantine, a key player from Davidson and an essential member of the team for four years, reflected on the unique experience of achieving victory in his senior year.
