The Samford women’s tennis team experienced a challenging defeat against the Troy Trojans, with a score of 4-3 in a match held on Thursday afternoon in Troy, Alabama.
The team’s season record has now fallen to 3-6, while Troy’s record has improved to 6-3. Nonetheless, the Bulldogs demonstrated great resilience and determination in both the doubles and singles competitions.
The day began positively for Samford as they secured the doubles point with victories on courts No. 1 and No. 2. Emily Surcey and Grace Keller delivered an outstanding performance on the No. 1 doubles court, claiming a 6-0 victory over Valeriia Avdeeva and Leena Metwally. Ally Hayduk and Margaret Jaraczewski then teamed up on the No. 2 court, securing the doubles point with a convincing 6-1 win over Hagar Ramadan-Amin and Emilia Namyslo.
In the singles competition, Alexis Lopez stood out with a commanding victory on the No. 1 court, defeating Kristina Kukaras with a score of 7-5, 6-3. Surcey also demonstrated her skills with a hard-fought win on the No. 2 court over Hagar Ramadan-Amin, with a final score of 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. Although the Bulldogs fought valiantly, Troy managed to secure the victory by winning on the other four singles courts.
Looking ahead, the Bulldogs will have the opportunity to bounce back as they prepare to face the College of Charleston on Wednesday, Mar. 6. The match is scheduled to commence at 9 a.m. (CT) in Charleston, South Carolina.
