Vineyard Hockey Teams Dominate First Round of Playoffs

The Vineyard girls’ and boys’ hockey teams have commenced their playoff campaign with impressive victories in the first round. The girls’ team engaged in a thrilling double overtime match against Dedham, ultimately emerging victorious with a 3-2 win. Meanwhile, the boys’ team delivered a dominant performance, defeating Greenfield with a landslide 10-0 triumph.

The girls’ team demonstrated resilience and determination at Bajko Rink in Hyde Park, twice fighting back from one-goal deficits before securing the win. Issy Blake was the standout player, scoring all three of Vineyard’s goals to claim a well-deserved hat trick. A crucial assist from Elle Mone set up the game-winning play, leading the team to a spectacular victory.

The nail-biting finish came two shifts into the second overtime period, with Coach Geoghan Coogan praising the “absolutely beautiful play between Issy and Elle.” The team’s previous experience in last year’s playoffs undoubtedly worked in their favor, with the girls showing remarkable composure and readiness to take on the intensified pressure of the playoffs.

Looking ahead, the Vineyard girls are preparing for a rematch against fifth-ranked Algonquin, a challenge they are ready to face head-on. Coach Coogan emphasized the team’s familiarity with their opponents and their readiness for the unpredictable nature of playoff hockey.

On the boys’ side, the Vineyarders put on a commanding performance, securing a resounding victory over Greenfield. Goalkeeper Zach Mathias was in stellar form, making 18 saves to achieve a shutout, while Aiden Conley’s hat trick in the second period set the tone for the team’s dominant display. The team’s cohesive effort saw goals coming from multiple players, with Liam Conley, Robby Pachico, Nate Averill, Griff Callahan, Max Metell, and Adrian Alberghini all finding the back of the net.

The boys now have their sights set on their next challenge, a home game against Ashland, as they aim to build on their impressive playoff opener.
